
1.Features of Hair

2. Basic Principles of Perm
1.Basic steps of processing perm
(1) The first step in the perming process is to apply a reducing agent, artificially breaks the disulfide bonds in the hair's cortex, which are responsible for maintaining the shape of hair.
(2) Second step is to check the softening and tension of hair, then wash away the chemicals on hair to prevent excessive softening or damaging to the hair.
(3) Third step is to reshape the hair, hairstylists can choose different perming methods like cold wave perm or heat perm.
(4) The last step in the perming process is to apply oxidizer(neutralizer) and reform the broken disulfide bonds, ensuring the hair structure is stable and the curls are set.
2.Necessary conditions and principles
(1) Apply reducing agents to break the disulfide bonds.
(2) According to the principle "protein denatures when exposed to heat", heat the hair (which is composed of keratin protein) and reshape the hair. Especially for the damaged hair, the number of disulfide bonds that can be broken is small, the effect is limited with chemicals alone, so heating is more nacessary in perming damaged hair.

Monoethanolamine (MEA), alkaline, needs to be mixed with reducing agents before using.
(1) Among the three reducing agents mentioned above, thioglicolic acid causes the most serious damage to the hair. After appling the reducing agent, in order to prevent the hair being seriously damaged, hairstylists have to check the softening of the hair carefully. At the same time, this type of reducing agents severely damage proteins, so the chemicals have to be washed away before heating the hair.
(2) Cysteamine HCL is the most commonly used reducing agents today. After using this kind of chemicals, the possibility of over-softening is low, so it's easy for hairstylists to use. By the way, this reducing agent contains HCL, hairstylists cannot heat and reshape the hair right after applying this chemicals, so first they have to wash away the chemicals and then reshape the hair. The odor after perming is also really bad.
4. BONPLEX Reducing Agent (less damage, less odor, more elasticity)
In order to shorten the perming time and reduce hair damage, Dr. JOO developed the technology to remove the HCL from Cysteamine HCL, leaving the cysteamine alone. Cysteamine-Free Clinic Perm solution, the BONPLEX reducing agent for normal hair (ph 9.5), alkaline, can be used alone, completely free from alkali substances like monoethanolamine (MEA) or ammonium chloride by utilizing Cysteamine-Free base. After applying this reducing agent, hairstylists can heat and reshape the hair directly.
The number of disulfied bonds that can be broken in the severely damaged hair is limited, so hairstylists need to be careful when using reducing agent. Therefore, the more damaged the hair is, the more it needs to rely on the heat denaturalization of proteins to achieve better perming results. By the way, "Isoelectric point" means when a substance reaches the isoelectric point, it has the strongest resistance to external stimuli, and the ph of isoelectric point is 4.5 to 5.0, so the BONPLEX reducing agent for damaged hair is also set at ph 4.5. 5. BONPLEX Neutralizer
After the hair is reshaped or dyed, an oxidizer (newtralizer) is applied. In the process of perming and dying, disulfied bonds in the cortex are broken by chemicals, and the oxidizer containing BONPLEX patented ingredients "dimaleate" helps rebuild the disulfide bonds. During the rebuilding process, some incomplete chemical reactions will occurs, and some disulfied bonds can't go back to original healthy state.
Side effects and Lanthionine reactions will occur after perming and dying, but existing chemical substances can't control Lanthionine reactions either. On the other hand, BONPLEX neutralizer can inhibit the formation of Cysteic acid, reduce external and internal damage of the hair, and solve the problem of uneven dying.
